Comparison between Different Re-Entry Technologies for Debris Mitigation in LEO

چکیده
The population of satellites in Low Earth Orbit is predicted to growth exponentially the next decade due proliferation small-sat constellations. Consequently, probability collision expected increase dramatically, possibly leading a potential Kessler syndrome situation. It therefore necessary strengthen all technologies required for avoidance and end-of-life disposal new satellites, together with active debris removal current future dead satellites. Both situations require lowering altitude satellite up re-entry. In this paper several de-orbiting are evaluated: natural decay, chemical propulsion (solid liquid), electric propulsion, drag sail, electrodynamic tether, combinations previous ones. comparison considers initial altitude, system mass, time, during descent, reliability, technological limits. Differences between self-disposal taken into account. Moreover, different types re-entry, controlled vs. non-controlled, expendable reusable system, demisable non-demisable also discussed. Finally, possibility operate Very Orbits compensation passive re-entry at end life investigated.

The Development of a Propellantless Space Debris Mitigation Drag Sail for LEO Satellites
The KnightSat II is the University of Central Florida’s entry in the sixth iteration of the University Nanosatellite Program. The principle objective of the satellite is to deploy a gossamer sail, which will dramatically increase the aerodynamic drag acting on the satellite and reduce the time it will take to deorbit. A prototype sail and deployment system has been successfully built and tested...

Of course, debris detection is important throughout the manoeuvring areas of an airport, not just the runway. We have chosen to concentrate on the active runway because that presents the most demanding environment, from both the physical and regulatory viewpoints. For example, there can be severe acoustic vibration and the sensor mountings must be less than ninety centimetres tall; both of whic...

Growing convergence among mobile computing devices and embedded technology promotes the development of “context-aware” applications, where location is the most essential topic. In present time, several systems are available in case a laptop, PC with a WLAN card and WLAN outdoor localization, such as GPS, assisted GPS and other access points (APs). An important characteristic of this system syst...
متن کاملSpace Debris Mitigation Utilizing Laser Ablation
Space debris poses an increasingly serious threat to satellites and spacecraft. Our project will aim to mitigate this problem using an array of kilowatt-class lasers, powered by photovoltaics. An experiment was implemented to study this using a directed energy system to completely vaporize or propel space debris out of Earth’s orbit. Common materials found in space debris were tested using a 60...
